Merino wool is an established staple fabric in Australia and New Zealand and here at Lulou Designs we have always loved these unique fibres. The strength and durability combined with stunning drape and softness are incomparable with any other cloth. Now we have sourced a medium weight fine wool jersey for you to enjoy! Meet Melbourne.
Merino wool is warm in winter and cool in summer and super soft so it can be worn next to the skin, even by those who normally shun wool as too itchy. It can be machine washed on delicate cycles and has a natural stretch as a result of the wool's inherent nature and the knit fabric.
Brilliant for any type of undergarment and sportswear and a moisture wicking fabric, merino wool has a natural ability to regulate body temperature, making it comfortable to wear even in challenging environments. It's also quick drying and hypoallergenic.
If you haven't sewn with merino before, then we have a few tips. It's not at all difficult to work with and it is much easier than classic spandex knit fabrics, as it tends to stretch out under the dog feed. However, you will benefit from using a ball point needle so as not to split the knit when you stitch and also to use a stretch stitch on seams and zigzag on hems to allow the stitching to stretch with the natural properties of the wool.
Melbourne Merino wool is knitted in Australia from guaranteed New Zealand and Australian wool in accordance RWS Responsible Wool Standards, which ensures product quality and sustainability from farm to retailer with a emphasis on animal welfare.
Melbourne Rose is mid tone muted pink. Suitable for warm summer skin tones.
